Shopify app
Sort collections by what actually earns, not just what sells most.
Shopify’s “Best selling” ranks by the all-time number of orders containing a product. Two products in the same number of orders rank equally, however much each one earned, and a steady seller from three years ago still outranks the product paying your rent today. Its newer default, “Most relevant”, Shopify describes only as sorting “based on sales performance”.

Collection Sort by Revenue
An illustrative shop, ordered by the real engine. The €5 sticker loses the best slot on the page to two products that earned nearly three times as much.
It is not a price sort. That is the first thing people assume, and it would be a bad way to treat your shoppers. Revenue and demand are weighed together, so they pull against each other: given two products that earned the same, the one more people actually bought wins. In the example above the €1,200 skis rank last, below the €5 sticker. Being expensive does not buy a place at the top.
Underneath, the order is built from revenue net of refunds, demand, sell-through, profit margin where you have entered cost, and how new a product is. Sold-out products sink as a rule rather than a weighting, because a sold-out hero has the best figures in the collection and cannot be bought. New arrivals get a fair showing instead of being buried for having no sales history yet.
Every product shows why it moved, and nothing is written to your store until you say so. Every change is recorded and can be undone, including the sort setting you had before.
